Beauty

So, it's no secret that I've gained weight since getting married...
I know it's to be expected and all, but it's getting old real fast. I know I need to work out, but go find time and on top of that walking in the snow to the gym isn't the most exciting thing in the world. So I'm working on it, but it's really hard to find motivation.

What are your secrets?

I can deal with feminine curves, but a flat stomach would be nice for once. I can't believe there was a time in my life when I thought I was too skinny and hated myself for it! I thought I looked like a little girl when I was a teenager (and I really did, I can confirm that now) but now I would love to have that back. Also, it would be nice to be able to distinguish my jawline from my neck.

So how do you get motivated and stay motivated?

Although, all things considered, chubby cheeks must be in my genes...

P.S. Apparently I need to put out a disclaimer. This is not a pity post, I don't need anyone to say "I think you look great". I don't see why people need to get so upset when I talk about losing weight. I'm not crazy about the way my body looks right now--that does not mean I am going to become bulimic or anorexic (trust me, I haven't got the willpower), it also doesn't mean I'm crazy or stupid.

  1. Let me be the first to say what we are all thinking here:

    You crazy.

"So, it's no secret that I've gained weight since getting married..." ?????

Lydia. My sweet. You are beautiful. I, like so many, would kill for your figure. Cut it out right now. If you want to get healthier, that's fine, but don't you think for one minute that you need to look better or impress anyone. Make sure that your motives are based in health and not vanity.

    Please.

  2. Jourdan, the only person I want to impress here is myself. It's nice of you to say that, but that doesn't change how I perceive myself, and I will point out that I have a perfectly healthy opinion of myself. Also, it's obnoxious to see the scale continue to go up and up for the past four years now, I'm kind of sick of gaining weight.

  3. I think you look great, but I will say that my favorite weight loss/toning tool is the stairmaster. I know it's not fun. I know it hurts. But it's what body builders do to create a body that is crazy lean and fit.

  4. Lydia-

Can I say that I completely understand how you feel and think it's wonderful that you want to feel good about yourself? My mother-in-law was over the other day and told me I'm "too skinny." My reply was that I was still a good 5 pounds and many ab muscles away from where I was pre-pregnancy. She thought I was nuts because I want to continue to lose that weight. Are we a healthy weight? Yes. Does that mean we should leave it at that? Not always. I feel so much better about myself when I'm being active!

I know it's so hard to find time for one more thing when you're in school and working and married and just trying to be your best. My mom has always told me to take little steps. One of my very favorite things to do is turn on some "energy" music in the morning (this morning was "Boston") and be extra active while getting ready for the day. Sometimes I take the time to do some extra crunches. Good luck and I say right on- you go for your goals!
