Hello Again...

Long story short: I'm not ready to pay to host my own blog, and apparently there's an upload limit on Wordpress for their free accounts. I've hit that limit now :/

AND, now I'm having trouble importing my content of the last four years back here... and it's extremely frustrating. I'm working on it, but in the meantime, I'm going to continue blogging here until it's all sorted out. Please forgive all the back and forth!

Moving

Hello friends!

For a number of reasons I have finally decided to switch to WordPress. I’m still in the process of transferring, so please forgive me if there are a few glitches along the way. The good news is, my blog is public again! With WordPress I can make only specific posts private, so ask me for the password if you run across one (the password will always be Lydia -- easy!). There are just certain things that probably shouldn't be shared with the whole world for now.

Newsfeed

Why hello there.

So I've been thinking about doing some sort of daily "news selection" posts or at least recommending articles somehow, but I didn't want to overload the blog with news everyday either. I think I've found the way to do it.

I just added a "Newsfeed" widget over to the left here that shows articles I've shared in Google reader. You can click directly on the last few links or go follow my shared items in Google reader. I seriously recommend Google Reader to begin with because it's such a simplified way to get all your news--although it's kind of hard to wade through the information overload. I'm still trying to find a way to narrow down the articles I get. For example, the Deseret News only has one RSS feed for the entire site so I get EVERYTHING they ever post... kind of obnoxious. But we'll get there.

Anyway, if you want more news but don't know where to start I've begun sharing stories I find interesting/relevant/important. It's kind of an exercise for myself, really, so that I'll get better at sifting our what is newsworthy and what's not. But if you want a daily dose of local, national and international news with a little bit of culture, religion and fashion thrown in... go on over and follow my newsfeed if you dare :)

Family - a proclamation

So there's this blogger I follow, her name is Jocelyn and she is one of the most inspiring people I know. She used to be in broadcasting (do you see why I like her? :) and is now a stay-at-home mom. She blogs about their family life but most of all about her attempts to teach her children righteous principles. She writes beautifully and I love to hear the small and simple ways she testifies of Christ to her family. I hope I'll be as awesome a mom as she is.

Anyway, all that to say that in September she hosts an event on The Family: a Proclamation to the World





in collaboration with some other bloggers. It's always an inspiring read, and I love hearing so many women's perspectives on the proclamation and its role in their lives. You should come join the party!

Blogger is working on new "dynamic view" formats that are rather interesting. I'm not sure if I'd want to change, I rather like my little place the way it is, but it seems like people will be able to choose how they want to view your blog. In other news, Andrew's mission reunion was tonight and although I went more for the food than anything else (hey, there's good food at these things!)  it was a nice evening. It's fun to see people from a part of Andrew's life that I didn't share.

I also officially signed up for a 5K... so now I'm forced to do it. It's something I've been wanting to do for while, just to prove to myself I can (this is coming from the girl who hated P.E. such much she may or may not have gotten waivers more than once to get out of it when it was running time...), plus the cause for this one is something I can definitely get behind.

It's the second annual "Commit to Virtue" run, organized by BYU's Students That Oppose Pornography (S.T.O.P.). I may be pretty passionate about the first amendment, but when it comes to pornography it just isn't as simple as "I'm allowed to publish pornography and that is my right to free speech." It's also about the women the industry exploits and abuses, the families its influence destroys, the men who suffer from addiction, and the objectification of human beings. So yes, I think the world would definitely be a better place without it.

I started warming up today (I'd call it "training" but then you might think I actually knew what I was doing), and just about died... good thing I still have a little over a week! When you think about it, I've DANCED the homecoming parade route three years in a row, so this really can't be that bad right? And we'll be following essentially the same path. But realistically, I'll probably run, walk, run, walk, and just make it through to the end at this point. Hey, it's a start!

Elaine S Dalton will be doing it too, so we'll be in good company! The sad thing is she'll probably outrun me. Oh well.
